Our family, caring for yours.
The feeling of uncertainty of what to do when you lose a loved one, family member or close friend is a normal process of bereavement. We want to support you through grief and answer any questions you may have, guiding you through the various steps that are involved.
A personal approach
Create a funeral as unique as the life it celebrates
Our aim is to offer the very best product and services available whilst listening to the families we support offering a range of choices that we hope will help make the process of arranging a funeral somewhat easier and more comforting.
From a simple dignified funeral to a more elaborate funeral, we believe the funeral itself should reflect the personality and life of the person who has passed away and there are many ways to make a funeral unique and bespoke, from traditional to alternative, religious to non-religious and environmentally conscious funerals.
A fully guided service from start to finish
A selection of funerals, products, and plans to suit any style and budget
Create a completely unique funeral where you choose everything
Catherine Milner
As a family, our experience with Gallaghers was exemplary. I cannot recommend them enough. In such a difficult time, they support and guide you with the utmost respect and care and made the whole process much easier.
Wendy Halloway
I can’t thank Gallagher’s enough for dealing with the loss of my lovely Mum with compassion and understanding. Special thanks go to Michelle, who seemed to really understand us as a family and helped to make a difficult day run smoothly, with everything just as we wanted.
Peter Mawson
We very much appreciated the time, trouble and care given by Paul and all the staff both before and during the day of the funeral, that was put into supporting us into creating the funeral that we know my father would have wanted. A job well done from a family friendly service.
Helen Cobley
I cannot be more grateful to the whole team at Gallaghers, but especially to Sam. He has been utterly professional and supportive throughout the process and has made an otherwise sad occasion into a superbly managed celebration of my father’s life.
Pamela McSharry
All staff showed empathy and were very supportive as we endured seven weeks of waiting for the funeral to take place, through no fault of their own. On the day of the funeral, all ran smoothly and the staff were professional and also friendly which we considered a perfect balance.
Kim Young
I was treated with great respect, consideration & sympathy from first contact. Simon has guided & advised me throughout a very difficult time. Always available to reassure & answer questions efficiently, friendly & professionaly. Would highly recommend.

Direct Cremation
This is the simplest and most cost-effective funeral option, becoming a popular alternative to a traditional funeral service with the same dignity and respect as all our choices.
Celebration of life
A celebration of life offers families the opportunity to pay tribute to loved ones and allows them to say goodbye in a way which honours and remembers their life, not focusing on the sadness, but instead sharing happy memories which may be a positive approach in the grieving process
We care about you, and the environment
Offset the Carbon Footprint of a funeral by Dedicating a Tree In Memory of a Loved One
Tree Planting for Tomorrow’s Generation.
A funeral is not just a service, it is a unique tribute to our loved ones. Whilst ‘green funerals’ may echo the person’s life and personality; the reality is that every funeral has a negative impact on our environment. Learn more about our aim to ensure every funeral we are trusted to care for has a positive impact on our environment.
A simple process to creating a memorable funeral
In a time of bereavement, you want clarity, not confusion. That’s why we designed our process to make organising the funeral of a loved one as simple and easy as possible.
Give us a call
If you feel that we may support you in planning a funeral, the first thing to do is get in touch. We’ll ask you a few simple questions and then arrange a meeting with one of our team.
Discuss your requirements
We’ll take your details and ask the name of the person who has passed away and where they are resting, whether you have registered the death and if the coroner is involved. We will also talk about where you are in the process and begin to understand what you would like. You can ask any questions you may have at this point.
Arrange to meet
Once we’ve had our initial discussion you will be invited to meet us at our arranging room at Airedale House, we can set up a video call, or we can visit you at your home.
This meeting will be approximately 1 hour and we’ll cover all your needs as well as discuss the options available to you.
Pre-paid Funeral Plans
A funeral plan is an easy way to arrange the funeral you want in advance. A plan allows you to specify your wishes and pay for the funeral directors services included in your plan.
We work in partnership with Golden Charter to provide you with a safe and reliable way to plan ahead. We will take time to understand your wishes and tailor a plan to suit you.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible
We understand you might have a lot of questions, which is why we've collated the ones we're asked most frequently, to help keep your mind at ease.
When someone dies, you must contact certain organisations to inform them as soon as possible. You need to:
- tell the tax office
- return the deceased person’s driving licence to the DVLA
- return their passport to the UK Passport Agency
- send any Lasting Power of Attorney or Enduring Power of Attorney they had back to the Office of the Public Guardian, along with a death certificate, if you were their attorney
- contact the DWP’s Tell Us Once service, which allows you to report a death to several
government departments with just one phone call.
You may need to contact other organisations as well, such as:
- pension scheme provider
- insurance company
- bank and building society
- employer
- mortgage provider, housing association or council housing office
- social services
- utility companies
- GP, dentist, optician and anyone else providing medical care
- any charities, organisations or magazine subscriptions the deceased person made regular payments to.
You could also register the name and address of the deceased person with the Bereavement Register, which tries to put a stop to post being sent to people who have died.
Funerals do generally follow traditional religious practices ie. Catholic, Church of England, Methodist , Baptist, however, there is also the option of a secular service which would include poetry, music and an appreciation of the deceased’s life, and we are able to arrange a secular officiant for you.
No, a funeral service may take place within our chapel at Airedale House, within the chapel of a crematorium or within your own home. It is also not unusual, in the case of a burial, for a service to be carried out by an officiant at the graveside.
Yes, you can put personal items in the coffin, however we cannot allow any metal and glass items.
Yes, family members can carry the coffin as long it is safe to do so on the day. We will talk through this option with you if this is something you would like to consider and full guidance will be given on the day of the funeral.
Many factors determine the cost of a funeral ie. the style of funeral, choice of coffin, number of limousines etc. We will advise you of all our options and packages. We will provide you with an itemised estimate of our charges and the disbursements that we will pay on your behalf. We want you to feel that you are in control of the amount that you will outlay for the cost of the funeral and arrange a fitting tribute that is within your financial reach.
Following the funeral arrangements being discussed, a full estimate will be provided and confirmation of the arrangements will be made on the receipt of the cost of the disbursements (ie. clergy, cemetery/crematorium fee, floral tributes, press notices) 48 hours prior to the date of committal. If you choose to pay both our charges and disbursements prior to that time, you may deduct £50.00 from the final balance, if not, the final account will be forwarded to you one week following the funeral date and full payment is requested within 21 days of the date of the invoice.
Full payment of the charges on some packages will be requested 48 hours prior to the date of the committal and we will advise you of this. Our preferred method of payment is by BACS (bank transfer)
